The “E” is a refurbished and remodeled two story log cabin that was built originally in approximately 1880. Located on main street in Basin, Montana, this cabin was built by hand. The logs were squared by ax and the original ax marks are still visible. The history of the cabin is still being researched, but it appears that it was a café, a boarding house, a home, a thrift store and now a place for artists.
In 2020, we began major restoration work. At the time, there was no floor, no foundation, many logs were out of alignment, one wall was leaning, and the roof was in disrepair. We dug out the inside of the cabin poured a foundation under the logs; rebuilt the floor; straightened out the walls; and demolished the 6 small rooms in the upstairs. The old chinking was removed, the entire cabin was sanded and re-chinked and then we added a two-story addition to the back. The original cabin is now the artist studios.
